I've been wanting to get to grips with some of the more advanced features of SimplePie for a while, and I thought a good way to do this would be to build a blog search engine. So, that's exactly what I did this weekend, and I came up with MusicInstinct.
It's pretty basic functionality at the moment, but I'm planning more features as I get time to add them. It parses music blogs for media and indexes them in a search-able way. I have then provided a front end (music) media player for previewing the files.
A few people have been asking about this site has been put together. I did start using FeedAPI, but I needed specific functionality here, and more importantly I needed performance - so I wrote the back end spider/index/blog search as a custom module. The front end is standard Drupal stuff, with Flag module for providing a "Likes" functionality.
The player is JW Player, with some custom control code written in jQuery.
