Drupal Features

The guys at Development Seed have released some awesome projects for Drupal. Just have a look at their Drupal projects page, wow! I've helped a few people get up and running with Open Atrium, and Managing News on Drupal, but I think their most important contribution to the Drupal ecosystem has been Features. Read on...

Open Atrium is a complete intranet/project management app built on top of Drupal. It's not just a very capable bit of software, it's also an excellent example of how to package a tailored distribution of Drupal using install profiles, custom modules, and features.

Managing News is a robust news and data aggregation engine, with a cool map based visualisation engine!

But, of course my favourite of the Dev Seed projects for Drupal is Features. This solves many common issues with developing on the Drupal platform, in particular the fact that configuration information for a Drupal project is stored in the database and therefore hard to capture in any versioning system. With the features module you export this configuration into code, ready to check in to subversion (or whatever your favourite cvs system is). The features module then allows you to monitor this configuration for changes, and manage updates, or revert to the version in code.

Open Atrium is an excellent piece of work.

I agree to your point, Open Atrium is an excellent piece of work.
there are few things, I like about it.
Very nice looking themes and very good functionality.
the best of part of all, instead of reinventing the whell, the selected Drupal to go ahead..to reduce the development time.
It is good decision.

Hmm.. thanks mystery guest
